Accessories are a Game Changer
I went paddleboarding this morning with a group of friends and I got there a little bit early as to make sure I had everything I needed. We were only going for a little while but it's best to have everything you need when going out on the water. This is a comprehensive account of all that I believe is needed for perfect morning paddle. In no particular order of importance, this is the list as each accessory comes to mind.
Accessories are a game changer when it comes to being out in the elements. Before I leave my house and then also right before I get on the water, I apply and re-apply my sunscreen. Even at 7 am in the morning, the Florida sun can be brutal. So sunscreen is a must. Although good conversation is welcome being with friends, I love to have music when I paddle, so a waterproof speaker or headphones is essential. I don't know what it is about being on the water that makes me hungry but hunger hits me as soon as I hit the water so snacks and water and or hydrating drinks are a must. That being said, a good small cooler that you can fit them all in and can easily be strapped onto your board is a valuable accessory one may want to invest in once taking up the sport of paddleboarding. Also a good water bottle that can keep your water cold and that holds at least 32 ounces. There are even some drink holders that can stick onto your board so they wont fall off. Hydration is a priority and cold water may be extra but it's oh so good on a hot day.
Did you even go if you don't take pictures? Don't risk dropping your phone in the water! You need a waterproof phone case and waterproof bag for your gear. Don't forget your hat either. I usually keep a few extra in the car. Extra sun protection is always good. It will definately be hot if you are paddling in July in Florida so choose the right swimwear. For ladies, we want something we can move around in without having to worry if our body parts are falling out and men need to choose something anti microbial and anti funky aka breathable.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to look cute or cool out on a paddleboard and there are some great functional fashion clothing and accessories for every taste. It sucks to get out there and get uncomfortable because you forgot your water or sunscreen, so the necessities are key. It is true that my list may be a little "extra" but I assure you, from years of experience, having a few of these extra non essentials makes for a great day on the water. May you float til your heart's content and may the sun shine all the good vibes your way. Take my advice and add to your accessories arsenal for a great day on your board.
